Le 12 février 2026, l’INSA Strasbourg a eu le plaisir d’accueillir Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk, architecte diplômée, professeure d’architecture et de conception et planification urbaines à l’Université Ain Shams au Caire et vice-présidente chargée du service à la communauté et de l’environnement. Elle a fait le déplacement à Strasbourg à l'occasion de la soutenance de thèse de Sitti Aisyah Rahman.

Une recherche innovante entre paramétrique et héritage moderniste

Architecte diplômée et enseignante à l’Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar (Indonésie), où elle a dirigé le département d’architecture pendant plusieurs années, Sitti Aisyah Rahman a soutenu sa thèse intitulée :

« Développement de la conception paramétrique à partir du module des mouvements de prière basé sur le Modulor de Le Corbusier ».

Ce travail original met en dialogue conception paramétrique contemporaine et référence au Le Corbusier à travers son système du Modulor, explorant les liens entre anthropométrie, spatialité et pratiques culturelles.

Son parcours doctoral s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un programme permettant à des enseignants méritants non docteurs de candidater à une bourse de doctorat en coopération avec le groupe INSA, un dispositif structurant pour le développement des carrières académiques internationales.

Signature d’un accord stratégique en architecture et urbanisme

Au-delà de la soutenance, cette visite a été marquée par la signature d’un accord de coopération en recherche entre l’INSA Strasbourg et l’Ain Shams University, aux côtés de :

• Romuald Boné, directeur de l’INSA Strasbourg
• Sylvain Leclerc, directeur de la recherche
• Florence Rudolf, professeure des universités en sociologie, enseignante au département architecture et chercheuse à l’AMUP
• Angelika Hammann, directrice des relations internationales

Spécialiste des questions de transition écologique, de développement durable et de dynamiques territoriales, Florence Rudolf collabore depuis de nombreuses années avec Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk, notamment dans le cadre du Master IUSD (Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design), programme conjoint entre l’Université de Stuttgart et l’Université Ain Shams. Elle a régulièrement participé à des jurys de master et à des rencontres académiques entre les deux institutions.

Des perspectives ambitieuses : co-tutelles, masters et projets ANR

Cette coopération ouvre des perspectives concrètes :

• Développement de co-tutelles de thèse entre l’INSA Strasbourg et l’Ain Shams University
• Réexamen du dossier du Master IUSD afin d’étudier d’éventuelles passerelles avec le master ASPU
• Collaboration autour du projet Clim’Ability Campus (ANR, février 2026), actuellement en attente de réponse pour le printemps, en lien avec le Plan Campus durable.

Par ailleurs, l’implication de Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk dans des partenariats université – entreprises ouvre des pistes prometteuses, notamment avec des entreprises déjà engagées dans le projet Clim’Ability.

Une dynamique internationale au cœur des enjeux climatiques

Cette rencontre illustre la volonté de l’INSA Strasbourg de consolider ses partenariats stratégiques à l’international, en articulant excellence académique, innovation en architecture et urbanisme, et engagement concret en faveur de la transition écologique.

On February 12, 2026, INSA Strasbourg had the pleasure of welcoming Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk, a qualified architect and Professor of Architecture, Urban Design, and Planning at Ain Shams University, where she also serves as Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Affairs. Her visit took place in the context of the doctoral defense of Sitti Aisyah Rahman, for whom she served as co-supervisor.

An Innovative Research Bridging Parametric Design and Modernist Heritage

An architect and lecturer at Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin Makassar, where she headed the Department of Architecture for several years, Sitti Aisyah Rahman defended her doctoral thesis entitled:

“Development of Parametric Design Based on the Module of Prayer Movements Inspired by Le Corbusier’s Modulor.”

This original research establishes a dialogue between contemporary parametric design and the legacy of Le Corbusier through his Modulor system, exploring the relationships between anthropometry, spatiality, and cultural practices.

Her doctoral journey was part of a program enabling distinguished non-PhD faculty members to apply for a doctoral scholarship in cooperation with the INSA Group, a structuring initiative supporting the development of international academic careers.

Signing of a Strategic Agreement in Architecture and Urban Planning

Beyond the thesis defense, the visit was marked by the signing of a research cooperation agreement between INSA Strasbourg and Ain Shams University, alongside:

• Florence Rudolf, Professor of Sociology, lecturer in the Architecture Department and researcher at AMUP
• Angelika Hammann, Director of International Relations

A specialist in ecological transition, sustainable development, and territorial dynamics, Florence Rudolf has collaborated for many years with Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk, particularly within the framework of the Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD) Master’s program, jointly offered by University of Stuttgart and Ain Shams University. She has regularly taken part in master’s juries and academic meetings between the two institutions.

Ambitious Prospects: Joint Supervision, Master’s Programs, and ANR Projects

This cooperation opens up concrete perspectives:

• Development of joint doctoral supervision (co-tutelle agreements) between INSA Strasbourg and Ain Shams University
• Review of the IUSD Master’s program to explore potential bridges with the ASPU Master’s program
• Collaboration on the Clim’Ability Campus project (ANR, February 2026), currently awaiting a decision expected in spring, in connection with the Sustainable Campus Plan 

Furthermore, Ghada Saad Hassan Farouk’s involvement in university–industry partnerships opens promising avenues, particularly with companies already engaged in the Clim’Ability project.
